Recently, Paul gave a lecture at the Mt. Stromlo Observatory in Australia titled "Are We Alone in the Universe". This lecture was designed to bring the public up to date with the current state of exoplanet science (i.e. they are everywhere) and what this means in terms finding extraterrestrial life. Paul addressed the difficulty of finding life without understanding the transition from non-life to life, as well as future ways to search for cosmic company. This lecture, as with all of Paul's recent work, stresses the importance of our group’s research in answering whether or not we are alone in the universe.

Congratulations to Alyssa, our research group's first PhD! We couldn't be more proud of Alyssa and all of her accomplishments, including her courageous pursuit of open-ended evolution as her dissertation topic! Alyssa is now working as a data scientist, applying her deep knowledge of complex and open-ended systems to real-world problems. Way to go Alyssa!

A new book "Visions, Ventures, Escape Velocities: A Collection of Space Futures" was published today, featuring a collection of short stories and essays imaging our future in space. Sara Walker contributed an essay commentary titled "The New Science of Astrobiology" on Singh's short story "Shikasta". Singh's story is a thought-provoking take on the possible futures for astrobiology and the discovery of alien life (featuring a cameo of work from the Walker group!). Read Singh's story and Sara's commentary, along with other excellent contributions on Mars exploration, low-Earth orbit and exoplanets here.
